Set daily inventory limits

Set the quantity of each product available per day on a menu at a location.

Written by Andy Cargill

A daily inventory limit sets the maximum quantity of a product or variant available for a particular pick-up, delivery, or dine-in date on a menu at a location. After the limit is reached, customers cannot add more for that date.

This is separate from the stock quantity stored in Shopify. For example, a daily limit of 20 sandwiches controls how many can be ordered for that day, even if Shopify has a larger stock quantity.

Before you begin

  • Assign the menu to the location and add the products you want to limit.

Set a daily limit

  1. In Zapiet Eats, go to Locations.

  2. Open the location from Locations.

  3. In Menus, open the menu.

  4. In Daily inventory, click Add product limits.

  5. Select the products, then click Add product limits in the picker.

  6. Enter a positive whole-number limit per day for each listed variant. If you selected several products with the same cap, use Same limits for all products.

  7. Click Add limits.

  8. Click Save on the menu schedule page.

Set the limit on the location menu, not only on the menu design page. The same product can have a different daily cap at another location.

Change or remove a limit

In Daily inventory, select the product and click Edit to change its limits. Click Save in the dialog, then Save on the page.

To stop applying a cap, select the product, click Remove, and save the page. Do not use a blank value or zero to mean unlimited.

For a one-off change to the quantity available today, use Today's inventory on Orders instead of changing the recurring cap. See Manage product inventory.

What customers see

When the limit is reached, customers cannot add more of that product for the selected fulfilment date on that menu and location. Advance orders count against their fulfilment date, so tomorrow's orders do not use today's allocation.

Whether today's manual availability changes carry forward depends on your inventory reset setting. Check the next day's availability after changing how inventory resets.

Shopify can still show the item as in stock. If you also need sold-out behavior from Shopify stock, see Manage product inventory.
