Getting started with Zapiet Eats

Set up Zapiet Eats on your Shopify store, from installing the app to placing a test order.

Written by Andy Cargill

Zapiet Eats turns a Shopify store into a restaurant ordering system. Customers choose Pick-up, Delivery, or Dine-in and order for an available time. Orders paid online use Shopify checkout; dine-in can also allow payment later when you enable it. You manage the resulting orders, and optionally table reservations, in Zapiet Eats.

Follow the steps below to set up your store and place a test order. The linked guides explain individual tasks in more detail.

Before you begin

  • You need a Shopify store and permission to install apps.

  • Staff who cannot approve app charges may need a store owner to finish billing.

  • Zapiet Eats does not offer shipping. Customers collect, receive local delivery, or order from a table.

Set up your store

Do these in order.

  1. Install Zapiet Eats from the Shopify App Store and open the app. If Shopify billing appears, pick a plan. You land on the Dashboard.

  2. Check Locations for locations imported from Shopify. Create a location if the place you prepare and fulfil orders from is missing.

  3. Enable at least one service on that location: Pick-up, Delivery, or Dine-in.

  4. Create a menu, add products, publish it, and attach it to the location.

  5. Show the ordering page or enable the widget. If the Dashboard shows Go live, complete that step using Complete your setup guide.

  6. Place a test order and confirm it appears on Orders.

  7. Work through the go-live checklist before you take real orders.

What customers see

Customer ordering page on the Zapiet Eats demo store.

Customers open your ordering page or the widget on your theme. They choose a location and service, select the scheduling details your setup offers, customize products, and complete the order. Pick-up and delivery use Shopify checkout; dine-in follows your payment settings. After checkout, staff see the order on Orders.

If you take table bookings, guests reserve on your booking page and you manage those bookings on Reservations. See Getting started with table reservations.

Pick-up, delivery, and dine-in

Each location can offer one or more services.

  • Pick-up lets customers order ahead and collect from the location.

  • Delivery lets you define zones, a delivery area, and checkout rates in Zapiet Eats.

  • Dine-in lets guests order from their table using QR codes.

You turn a service on from the location page. Click Enable if it is off, or Manage to set minimums, time slots, fees, and tags. Shopify pick-up must also be on if you offer Pick-up.

Menus

Menus control which products are available at each location and when. Create a menu, add sections and products, publish it, then set the schedule for pick-up, delivery, and dine-in. Customers only see published menus during the hours you schedule.

Orders

New orders appear on Orders. If the location reviews orders before accepting, click Accept order. Staff can then prepare, print, and complete the order. Automatic acceptance skips the accept step.

Reservations

Table reservations are optional. They are separate from dine-in ordering. Guests book a table on your booking page. You confirm, seat, and complete bookings on Reservations. Start with Getting started with table reservations.

Shopify POS

If you use Shopify POS, you can add Zapiet Eats tiles so floor staff can take menu orders and manage reservations on the POS device. Set that up after your location, menu, and services work on the storefront. See Set up Shopify POS.
