Zapiet - Product Rates allows you to add product specific rates.

Requirements

  • The Carrier Service API is required when using Zapiet - Product Rates, in order to show the rates in the checkout. You can learn more in our Shopify Carrier API guide.

  • You need to create a product group before adding the rates.

  • All non-digital products need to be marked as a physical product in Shopify.

How are the rates calculated?

The rate generated by Zapiet - Product Rates will consist of several fees set up in our app. The final shipping rate can consist of:

  • Default product rate (per product for the rest of your products)

  • The shipping rate for each item within a specific group (e.g. fragile items)

  • Base fee (for the whole cart), which can be used as a handling fee

You need to set up rates for all of your products, but you can use any combination of the rates/fees mentioned above.

For example, you can add a specific group rate for your fragile items, a specific group rate for your heavy items, and a rate for the rest of your products. For regular products, you can set up a per product rate, a base fee for the whole cart, or use both.

The final rate will be combined based on the fees you've set up. It can be either:

  • Base fee = Total rate

  • Product group shipping fee for every item + Base fee = Total rate

  • Default product rate for every item + Base fee = Total rate

  • Product group shipping fee for every item + Default product rate for every item + Base fee = Total rate

  • Product group shipping fee for every item + Default product rate for every item = Total rate

Add a default product rate

The shipping rate for each product not added to a specific product group.

If you have 2 products from the default group in the cart or if you have 2 of the same products in the cart, the rate will be doubled (tripled if you have 3, and so on).

  1. In Zapiet - Product Rates, click Products and rates.

  2. Tick Add a default shipping rate for each product.

  3. Add a shipping rate.

  4. Click Save changes.

Make sure you have created a product group first.

  3. Add a Shipping fee for this product group.

Add the base fee

The base shipping fee will apply to all orders and will be added to the whole cart value.

  1. In Zapiet - Product Rates, click Product and Rates.

  2. In the Base shipping fee section, select whether you want to offer Fixed Price or Percentage.

Percentage will be calculated from the total cart value.

Examples

Product group shipping fee + base fee

The shipping rate can consist of:

  • The shipping rate for each item within a specific group (e.g. fragile items)

  • Base fee (for the whole cart)

For example, you would like to charge £12 for regular shipping, but also add a £10 surcharge for each fragile item shipped.

Product group shipping fee + Default product rate + base fee (%)

The shipping rate can consist of:

  • The shipping rate for each item within a specific group (e.g. fragile items)

  • Default product rate (per product for the rest of your products)

  • Base fee (for the whole cart)

For example, you would like to charge 10% based on the total price of items in the cart, but to add an £8 surcharge when shipping every fragile item. You also, want to charge £4 handling fee for every other non-fragile item.
